Ship building horror stories

HelloAllHelloAll Posts: 701Member Intermediate
So tonight I made a school boy error.

Modding a ship and used admiral’s cabin (which I was saving for ship skill) instead of aides cabin.
The ship is still great but because of this I fell 1 behind max armour which bugs the hell out of me.

It made me think it might be fun to share past ship building nightmares/mistakes that have been made over the years.

You guys have and ship building horror stories to tell?

I messed up my Custom Roman Galley just a bit for this past ESF.
Just before I started the mods I asked a very reputable SBer if the CRG got an extra mod at the colony, which he said he believed it did.
I made the mistake of not double checking and started the build. Only to find out that the CRG gets no additional mods at the colony.
This left me just shy on a few stats but the ship still ended up ok, not perfect, but it's only a light ship for ESF.

Adding a DSS to a Trading Clipper. :p
My original Vaisseau on Gama. It would have been perfect for grading but sadly. Fusing was long way off.

Not really a ship building horror story, but when I won a ALM one time from the sailors bottle I was so excited that I got a astros ship from the bottle, that I started modding it without reading into how ship mods and fusion works. As a result, it came out a piss poor mod. XD I ended up having to sell it at ticket price plus including a free SSIR because nobody would buy it unless it was well below market value.

I made in total two major mistakes during my Shipbuilding career.

Adding vertical bonus on Trading Large Galleon (GAMA)
That time I was a newb in it and started doing my first grading and I assumed grading was an apart bonus from the special shipbuilding improvement but it appears the improvement bar was filled instead... It added 75+ vertical sail but my sail was already 110/110 and now ended up 185/112... that wasn't handy.

Wasted "Add Skill Slot 2" on Ambush Roman Galley (Maris)
This happened last month before ESF took place. I was busy with my ESF ships and had the ultimate recipe for this ship. Everything went as planned until I realized that UWOtool made a mistake... the ship couldn't have Demolition work which I wanted to add on the last mod (after grading) and that didn't happened. So yet again this was a painful experience, but didn't reset it as the performance in overall is too good to do that. Lesson: Don't trust uwotool 100 %.

Hope this gives a clear picture and that most of you avoid this.

    Kind Regards,

on purpose or by accident? I wasted 2 dgaffs, a dstorm, AESC, custom rigging, CIGP and AIGP on my ESF memorial battle sloop, but I did it because I was bored. I wouldn't recommend it, but now I know how far a light ship with only 3 improvements can be built up. My worst issues that weren't on purpose was using things on ships that they weren't needed for, such as aug gun ports on battle ships that didn't need them, or using a dgaff or dstorm on a trade ship that could be maxed with regular sails. But probably my most boneheaded move was selling dgaffs/dstorms in the bazaar when I first started buying bottles and had no idea what dgaffs/dstorms were for, much less how much they were worth.
