Plunder System - Not so good idea after all

TonyFields95TonyFields95 Posts: 0Member Beginner

Hello UWO Community.

Just my 2 cents regarding plunder system and PVP.

First of all, sorry for the long post, hope that you can “grind”
it all till the end.

I’ve been playing this awesome game for about 2-3 years,
can’t recall correctly. As many others, I was upset with the wipe, however we
still have the game to play, so “Keep Calm and Carry ON”. What’s not to love in
a game with a friendly community, many willing to help others and where you
have to actually think and plan before execute…

I’m more of a Maritime/Adventure player. Back in GAMA I had
some really fun PVP battles as a BH since piracy not the way for me. I had
Acc/Pen/Bal max refined and Evasion maxed out. Was working on refining melee
and plunder. Had HC/Sew/Casting maxed out. SB R20 7N. Adv skills were on the
way up too. Why telling you this?

Like back then, now I have some nice “homemade” gear (Some
100 def boots, 100def armour, some nice SW gloves, 63 def helmet, a 100 attack
weapon, ….). In terms of equipment, will aim for the Full rigged sails (R15
sewing), large spankers or the big sterncastles, now with the Casting refined
already, can make some nice R18 cannons… I think by this time you get the
point. It takes a lot of time to make almost all of this kind of equipment,
time that due to my RL commitments, not able to “waste”. So, why not go for
some UWC items, you say?

In terms of UWC equipment, I prefer not to spend real
money in that since I can make some nice counterparts in the game, although I bought
already the Ruqun +1SB since the SSB still way off for me. I could however upgrade
with UWC items EX: Excalibur (which is not plundered) with UWC forging tools to
increase the attack.

UWC Tickets to aim for the ships? I don’t gamble. When I pay
real money, I want to get what I paid for, not some lottery items. As in GAMA, I
prefer to be a SB20, or ask for one, to build the ship I want, the way I want it
to be or make some “out-of-the-box” experiments (OG for nanban, Victory for adv…).
For me, it’s really enjoyable to be a SB, to make you projects and worked them
out. But the grind… I’m not saying don’t buy the tickets, if you’re a fan of
gamble, go for it. Actually, if you want a battle Aide to support you, you
almost NEED an UWC ship, because of the levels. I remember I had a ANL for the
aide that, if it was a SY NL, I would be still grinding him to get him on the SY
ship.

So, how do I support the game?

Like in GAMA, I will spend real money in SSIP’s, exp/fame/skill
boosters, UWC forging tools, consumables to increase skill slots, inventory
space, number of possessed ships, aide boosters, speed boosters, basically any
consumable item that helps me cut the corner on my game progression (P2notspendsomanytimegrindingstuffsinceihaveafamilyandthetimeihavetoplayismostlyatnightwhentheyallgottobed).

After all this, let’s say I face someone in a Modified
Superior Jet Engine Turbo Victory (Not yet released!) with their fully forged
UWC gear, equipment and ship parts, whatever. In GAMA, with my homemade equipment,
with std master’s 18 guns, a modded SY Victory… I would go for the fight
anytime!  One exception though, UWC God
cannons as we call it. That’s is OP. Period. I would still go for it, but only
once…

Would I always loose? Maybe… maybe not. But definitly worth
the fight (had a few like that).

Now, with the plunder system actually implemented, will I risk
losing any of my “homemade time consuming” items? Ship parts? Some one time to
get adv items (like the mjonir set)? Items that I’m in need for a quest that
started in London and i get caught reaching Hangzhou?

Will I go naked to the fight? Do I try to escape, risking
get caught in melee and losing it all? For what?

Well… sorry, “Trib and Carry On”. Even if im in a Hind
with some battle capabilty, I will not risk it cause it’s not worth my time.

This is not the only reason, some say population is the
main issue, however, in my opinion, this is  one contributing factor that limits PVP. Even
for the guy griding melee till refine, what’s the fun of receiving tribs most
of the time? Tell me if I’m wrong, maybe there are some that work for the
tribs, what do I know!

If you’re still reading this, congratulations, you’re now qualified
for the Alchemy grind
J

Bottom line: Remove items/equip plunder system on players.

TY

With best regards

I respect your long post, can see that you really care about this.

But has a pirate I'll have to disagree & agree.
I understand that it sucks to get your gear stolen you've worked so hard for, while this other guy in his full UWC gear doesn't have to care for anything.

But as a pirate people like you are the most fun :)
Look, you don't earn 500m+ per day like a trader could as a pirate. In fact you earn pretty much near to nothing for sailing around killing people a whole day but if I get to steal some gear like that of yours I finally get something worth for sailing 10hours a day.

Remove plundering from pirates again and there will be no pirates left, and at that point the game becomes stale.. running EU>EA without having to worry about anything.

    congratulations I’m now 100 years old :p

I kinda see your point, but from another angle.
I plundered a lot of people and only ever got crap.
Is that because they all had uwc gear, or like you did they have good gear that is plunderable so therefore they tribed me.

For me the plunder system has been pointless as regards a money maker.

But I know 1 pirates that managed to plunder 100def gloves and make 1b from it.
Also another pirate plundered the +1 SB book early on in Maris and made a fortune.

You don’t need to sail around in quest chain gear anyway.
Also stuff like the 100 def boots and equip is easily replaceable.

I’m a white name now but when I did pirate all my gear was plunderable so I was at risk of losing it all.

So I guess if your not willing to risk losing or gaining 100m or so then your not that bothered about fighting.

Also don’t forget storage skill counters plunder skill

Early in maris, i was doing a BR up in the black sea. I was grinding melee skills but wasn't paying attention so i didn't notice that the npc was countering my melee attack. When i saw that i was deck cleaned i went back to port to restock my crew but realized that the NPC ended up plundering my 100d boots! oops XD

there's some rich npc now with my 100d boots in the black sea! lol

NPCs tend to drop their stuff in sea after stealing it from you

    Sorry for your loss.......

Plunder seems fine to me as there is a choice

WMB stops all plunder so does astro gear and so does storage. Not even counting turtle ships improved / camo hold…

So question isnt will I be plundered the question is will I choose to be Plunderers?  Will you give up some speed or a skill or stat you like to put WMB or buff storage to be safe or do you risk it?

If you know you didnt take the precautions to block plunder will you choose to still go out there in your best gear and risk plunder???

I like the choice aspect is safety more important than greed or cockiness if you choose the latter you can't really get mad if you get plundered.

Take it from me, always be careful when using plunderable gear specifically EXitems. I lost my plunder ex and didn’t know the “log” off and wait an hour recognition trick..

That was a couple bill gone

  • HelloAllHelloAll Posts: 701Member Intermediate
Log of an wait an hour?
  • carssmancarssman Posts: 70Member Beginner
Yeah so if you get an item plundered by NPC (this only works if you’ve been plundered by NPC) don’t panic, rather stay in the same spot, do not move and do not cry. Log off toon for at least 10-15 min, some cases as long as an hour, log back in and start spamming recognition. If your lucky, you will pickup what you lost and I’m sure in my case; find someone else items that were plundered.

I tested this after my loss of that EX item and confirmed it with a leaders cutlass. I purposely got plundered by NPC to validate the myth.

After about 30 minutes I found it using recognition

@Spookles meh, not really a big loss, it was more funny to see it happen than anything. Those boots are very easy to replace so after which, i went out and bought 3 pairs, 1 for main, 1 for alt and 1 to just bum around the quarters in hehe

@carssman that's good to know, although it might be alittle late for me since that happened a few months ago now. I know the exact spot it happened, it would be hilarious if i search the spot and find them after all this time XD

Every game needs some sense of risk or danger to keep it interesting. I can't imagine UWO where there is no chance of any negative affects at all.

Why bother sailing at all? Might as well just have nanban goods teleport instantly to seville and never leave port.

The plunder system is not going to help any pirates get rich, it will only piss people off when one of their favorite items gets plundered. Let's face facts pirates, nobody is ever going to change the game to where you can take a significant part of a person's wealth at sea, it's all crumbs and residue. Piracy is something you do for fun, if you want money you make it trading.

Decent pirates, and I mean the real ones put a lot of effort into grinding many different skills and always needed to spend money to avoid becoming a regular victim to BH and other pirates.

If they spent that time doing nanban they would be amongst the richest in the game. So I wouldn’t call that lazy.

It's costly to go pirate or BH, pirates are more vulnerable due to a BH could be set for deck, cannons, melee, you never know. But both classes need unplunderable items/gear really which is where the expense comes fom.
About CPC saying WMB stops all plunder is false so be aware. WMB stopped the use of pillage orders being spammed in melee, but thankfully pillage orders are 100% ineffective in pvp now.

I wrote a long time ago how the removal of plunder would damage the game and it did. PvP died heavily, alot of PvP maritimers even quit. Unplunderable gear is also an incentive by KOEI for players to buy expensive sought after items which vast majority of good unplunderable gear are UWC/cash bought.
That said you don't need to spend real cash, spam tickets or any real money transactions to get UWC unplunderable items.

Where is the thrill in PvP with no risk? Don't get me wrong, i loved PvP even without the PvP plunder, But the days when there was upto 10v10 and alot of comp v comp battles in EA etc were amazing and I do miss those days.

    No.

I'm sorry crazyhunter, but pirates have to grind skills to be able to plunder any decent items. And the skills that need to grinding don't have short cuts like those of a trader/caster/sewing toon.
You can grind casting to max on a couple days.
If you know of a way to grind rowing or plunder that quick please let me know!

So calling someone who has worked way harder than you 'lazy' is just a cheap shot.
I understand that losing a good item is no fun, but that risk is what makes UWO great.

most of the better non-uwc equipment in the game usually take working through quest chains requiring high skill ranks.hours of grinding archaeology, theology, appraisal etc...   takes as much time if not more than your rowing grind.

i find the discovery skills are easier to grind, Even if you are not doing a adv job, all you have to do is just grind them in the archives when you visit a city even when you are doing your other jobs (at least to r10). There's just more of them to do. But if i'm not in proper job it takes forever to get rowing up, I've been stuck at r9 for well over a month and i haven't even started refining yet. Also i don't always use a row ship since non row ships have much better cargo but i can always still work on dis skills which gets them up faster.

But I play this game for fun... If I'd want to be productive I wouldn't be playing an asian grinding game :)

@crazyhunter2003 stealing other peoples things instead of earning them yourself is lazy

I guess with that philosophy then everyone in the Academy debate is a lazy thief then since they 'steal' a discovery from someone when they win who had to go out and earn it themselves...
