My pirate Rant seems to have stired up a discussion

For those who have not seen the video

Overnight there seems to be a lot of comments about me wrongly making the video and bitching about trying to get this tatic (if you can call it that) Outlawed and that the tatic involved was also present in Gama server.

For the record, I ain't bitching neither was I crying and neither did I make the video because I got attacked there, I was trying to open peoples eyes to this trap that newer players could fall into and to also make a discussion on it.

Simple questions

Should Pirates use spy alts that are sunk to spy on ports?
Should any spy alts that spys for pirates be pirates so is clear for all to see?
Is this NEW 1 hour between pirate attacks long enough if not then how long?
Should Battle skills perhaps be capped at R10 so everyone can defend themselves and therefore make the attacks more intresting as you will likely get more people defend themselves than head to the edge of the ring?

Oh Santo Domingo.... I remember this trick here at this place as it was done on gamma all the time. A certain idiot whom I will not mention would park his alt here whilst he was at login screen at full speed getting poor traders. I do not care when a pirate wins a battle but this kind of stuff should be outlawed. And for the record I am against lookout alts against pirates too.

I totally agree, I'm also on the side of removing alts
No need to @ me again about how important our alts are blablabla you're all stubborn and selfish because without alts you can't make the same money as with alts.

But you cannot remove it, Papaya can't make it against TOS either.
    Why?
Well to start off people care about their alts, but more importantly there seems to be a very small group actually annoyed by it. Most traders accept it because they can use multiple toons for nanban anyway. It's just so **** stupid that it exists and that players accept it aswell. And to make it even worse these pirates think they're some form of god because they get alot of kills. Honestly, start a conversation with these guys and you'll see their ego is way outta proportions. Heck I got up to 20k noto by sailing around, these **** tactics are bad for the game overall.

Can't do anything against them though because where do you draw the line? If you aren't allowed to use alts in maritime why would it be accepted in trade and adventure?
There is even a BH that sails around with his alt supporting him in PVP, it's disgusting.

    Queue the opposide side:
Yeah but if you hate them don't complain its part of the game REEEE just use it yourself if you can't beat it but don't whine about it REEEE
    Stupid ****

    Yes I'am mad.

I'm not saying don't use alts in maritime, but if you going to use them use them like everyone else and not to set up traps like these.

adv use alts, they tow them with them
Traders use alts, again tow them with them
Maritime is different for whatever reasons.

Pirates and maybe BH use them for spy

I once got baited by an alt disguised as a trade ship, before getting pirated hard.

@Spookles, I think I saw someone saying that to play the Japanese server, you'd have to register your account with your real ID. Plus of course the monthly pay to play. I think I'd be playing that if I knew Japanese well enough... Forbidding alts on F2P server with no ID control measures wouldn't work because it is hard to prove someone is multiboxing, that would create a lot of unnecessary confrontation with GMs/support and I believe was the reason when NM allowed alts in the first place. Can you think of any method that would forbid alts without leaving the server completely empty (as so many people have them, it'd feel like a second wipe)? Besides, with the population being so low, for me it looks reasonable to use spies like that, as there is barely any other way to catch any prey, why aggro on that. It is ugly, but can you take it as a fact of life..?

Besides, this game already has over way too many absurd limitations by design, why add to them (unless it's something clearly game-breaking like MGHP). Alts aren't that big of a deal IMO, they're game-modifying rather than game-breaking.

I dont think its the alt spy people have issues with - its the ability to lurk offline with the main and be able to log in at full speed on top of the prey. Its just not fair play.

an easy way to prevent this is is Koei made it so there's a 5min wait until you can attack another player when you log on.

I've sent a suggestion ticket regarding to implementing something like a "cool-down" period after logging in -something similar to the one you get when you switch ships with your aide at sea. I've got a response to discuss it on the forums, but seems like you already have this going. IMO log-out camping is the lowest form of piracy, so something like that would be okay with most people, certainly won't "limit the ability" of the actual pirates.

I agree with the above comments.

But to add to it I would like to see the ‘log out at sea’ timer extended.

A few times people have done that to me and then sent me cocky pm’s afterwards.

I agree logging in at sea is the lowest form of piracy.
But logging out at sea is the lowest and laziest form of evading it.

Thanks to one innovative Ahole whom thinks that he is a pirate, even white names are not even safe inside of Europe any longer. We all know whom that Ahole is but I will not say names dues to the "harassment of players rules" set forth by the GM...

If the "Stop pirates attack for 5 minutes log in timer" does happen can I suggest that the loss of noto points also applies for that time so they don't get a unfair disadvantage for the noto points?

well, it's not a 'stop pirates from attacking for 5min login' as it would apply to everyone. 5 min is a decent time as papaya seems to have a 'disconnect' issue with it's server and we wouldn't want anyone suffering from that during events like ESF.

A 1 minute time should be plenty long enough.
I often login and go out hunting right away. And I try to always play it fair, not camping, using spies, farming alts, or any other cheap tricks.

I also agree with HelloAll that logging out to avoid pirates is the lowest form of fair play.
  • SpooklesSpookles Posts: 287Member Intermediate
Let's be real here, this thing has been around for many years not in UWO alone. Big games like World of Warcraft suffer from the same issues, just google for 'combat logging' you'll get many other online pvp games with the same issues.
  • purplepiratepurplepirate Posts: 994Member Intermediate
@Culvern I also agree with HelloAll that logging out to avoid BOUNTY HUNTERS is the lowest form of fair play.

Glad we both agree on this one  hehe XD

The only problem with 1 min though is that most players are casual players that don't use high end modded out ships so it takes several minutes in many cases just to sail over the horizon from the city you just left due to slow acceleration.

Don’t be silly, bounty hunters can’t catch pirates :p

Not true HelloAll! They catch pirates by shouting comeback and fight.
Until you comeback in a ship other than a LLM, then they will demand you switch back into the LLM before they will fight you.

And yes I have had this actual scenario happen numerous time before.
