My shipwrecks observations

calicaddy46calicaddy46 Posts: 123Member Trainee
I've been keeping track of the types of shipwrecks I get and the locations of them. A total of 100 counts but excluding 2 of those that were from records of sunken ships. 98 valid samples. Thought someone might find it interesting.

Notable items are the ones that I think are worth mentioning. All seals are excluded.

"Discount" and "saved" refer to the free +1 decipher counts that randomly happen with the title "Shipwreck Hunter".

List assumes that all the discovery shipwrecks are discovered. There were no ghost wrecks during the recording of these data.

I'll continue to take note and update this post when noticeable changes are made.

I also track Shipwrecks and their drops on my blog, although I have never fully converted my old spreadsheet from GAMA but it does have what I have raised from day one on MARIS, and from about SW #200 or so from GAMA.

The main reason I started doing it was because I felt that I was getting alot of East India Trade Ships. I was keeping track of them only but I thought it would be interesting to keep a log of it to actually see just how big of a chance I have getting an east india trade ship for my next wreck. :)

Nice things iv been woundering if i wanted to get back in to swing agin or not .found it a pain when sailing buy your self. The skill really help out solo salavagers that dont use alts to help find ships.sadly it will be a long time till building 4 is unlock maybe a month till building 2 is open

But on a side note boston collage has 2 really nice skills for salavageing
building 2 skill..It can be reopened with a low probability when opening a treasure chest inside a sinking ship

    building 4 skill
When the map of the sinking ship is completed When you open the sunk ship screen, you can see the name of the sea area where the sinking ship is located.

The second skill is completely useless.
It's alright, Ma, I'm only bored.

I started to get a feeling that the location of SW depends on where the map was completed, my SWs tend to be close to where I activate the maps. Is this real?
Also, what does the level of SW depend on? Is it the number of completed SWs, so that the more you complete, the bigger levels you get? Or something else?

Some of you all that keep charts and stats like this on these UWO things need commended. All I know is my next SW has been sitting East Northeast of Busan for 2 months now and last couple I had weren't anything I thought to track. Good job!

You really have to have an alt sailing with you when shipwrecking to help you locate the shipwreck. If you've only done shipwrecking solo you might not be aware of this, but when sailing with your alt and you use salvage it will tell you which of the two are closest to the sw,  you or your alt. That really makes it easy to narrow down the area of the sw pretty fast. On some shipwrecks, you don't really have to have that help, but on some it will save lots of time, especially on ones that are far from land.
May the winds blow you well

I had close to 500 wrecks pulled on GAMA. What I would do is save a big stack of SWMPs (400ish) then go on a SW hunting spree. This would usually happen every 2-3 months. During those times, I noticed certain SWs would pop up more often then others, then just flat out disappear next time I go on a SW hunting spree. One I time I got that Gulf Pirates wreck that's in the Bay of Bengal area several times (almost every other wreck, and real annoying having to sail from the Arctic and back). The other time it was that Excavators wreck southeast of Muscat. And then it was a East India Trade Ship that was around Sao Tome. It makes me wonder what influences that...

@HeavyWater - the second skill can be very useful if you cannot figure out what area the sw is in - we even have sw maps that have no land features at all.

More samples lead to better chart. Darn east india trade ships. At least the passage wrecks have something useful in them most of the times.

Ive also wondered if current Salvage and/or # of SW factors in to what type of map you get. What about ghost ships? I’ve only pulled one, that was around my 30th wreck. I’ve completed about 100 so far. Sems very rare.

From the Japanese wiki, I've found this information:
    • As the cumulative number [of raised shipwrecks] increases, the map of high difficulty will be completed. At the same time there is a tendency to increase the required number of sheets.

Also there's another interesting stuff which I'm not sure how to interpret:
    • Tips from NPC
      • If the total number pulled up is less than 30, asking the former seafarer will identify the ocean in 3 places. (free)
      • If the total hike is 31 or more, ask the fortune-teller to identify the sea area to three places. (Charge) I am in the cafeteria of Ceuta, Dublin, Saronica, Sassari, Ancona, Bremen.
      • When you talk to the map craftsman Bergen, Naples, Genoa, Athens, Cairo, Casablanca, Manchester, they strike ○ on the map.

    Any comments?

150+ ships raised not a single ghost ship yet.

ghost ships are random. I'm only at 33 wrecks and i've already had one! But back on OGP, it took me almost to 100 wrecks before i got a ghost ship.

The types of shipwreck you get seems very random. I have only pulled three ghost wrecks in total so far, 2 after I started recording the log.

Those new features sound interesting and it will possibly give an idea for some of the hopeless cases (7* all sea map) short of using the 2nd boston skill for salvager.

No matter what you do, 30 pieces is the max required and there are no 10 star shipwrecks at the moment.

I seldomly do SWs and I just had a ghost ship at #23. Guess I got very lucky, although I hardly got anything worth a dsmn from it .

Speaking of shipwrecks, is there any skill, item, etc. that can recover lost sailors while salvaging?
  • calicaddy46calicaddy46 Posts: 123Member Trainee
Unfortunately no. Well there is an item (Shen Nung's Medicinal Herbs) to revive sailors, but that might be too expensive and rare for shipwreck sessions, and mostly, unnecessary. Instead you can take measures to reduce the sailor loss though by increasing the chance of successful salvage by higher salvage ranks, locating the exact position better, exploration ship refit, other toons helping, etc.

That's what I suspected but thought it was worth asking given the influx of new content. Thanks for confirming, Cali!
