Requirements to use nicknames?

I'm trying out the notoriety contest and so far I'm up to about 10k noto, and I've got a red name, and also sunk 2 bounty hunters, but I still can't use the nickname function. What are the requirements for that? I've been googling my fingers off but I can't really find any info on the subject. Can someone link to a guide, or give a good explanation of the various ways to use the nicknames? (the second name above your regular name). thanks in advance!

    I believe I got my first nicknames after killing ~4 bounty hunters.

    BHs get nicknames too after killing a couple pirates
    Adventurers can get titles (possibly only astronomers?)
    Mayors can get titles too.

    Or use that item that is currently in ticket to get a nickname. (those are different from the ones you get for doing certain activities in the game)

    Tried translating several piracy nicknames to japanese and gave it a search on their wiki but couldn't find anything related to the nicknames.
    They have 0 effect btw, it just looks cool.
    It might scare some BHs off though ;)

    When you change your title in that menu at the top right corner there is an option to change your nickname.

    yes, but it's greyed out. what do I have to do to activate that - kill some more bounty hunters?

    I don't know, I killed the same pirate like 3 times before I unlocked nickname. I think its dependent on how much honor/notoriety you have. The more you have the more options of nicknames you can choose from.

    Yeah you gotta kill more, I believe you get nicknames at the same time as special titles.

    As example, gain more notoriety per kill or avoid BHs from running out of the circle for a certain amount of time.

    Nicknames and titles aren't the same btw.
