How to FIGHT back against Pirates as a Trader

CrzyPsycoChickCrzyPsycoChick Posts: 667Member Intermediate
Im writing this to show that just because you're trader and in a trade ship you can still fight back against pirates in many other devilish ways and no you dont a super battle class ship and you dont have to be a defenseless victim either . I'll try to credit the individual who I saw employing the tactic.

1. Pirate Spy Network | Practioner:  david319

David is one of the best practioners of this tactic in which you use one of the pirates greatest tricks against them spotter alts. I would see David place his alts in various locations seville london santiago havana, SEA and sakai. What he would do is simply log in alts every now and then look for pirates and when one is spotted hed state where they were in world chat what ship they were in and what direction they were going.  VERY EFFECTIVE as pirates main weapon against traders is surprise

2. Fine Tribute Goods Charity | Practioner:  CPC

Fine tribute goods stop pirate attacks so why not make a bunch and give to your company daily 5 is more than enough to keep you safe. It used to be much harder to make them but with the help of boxes its easy they literally are giving them away so they are much easier to distribute!

3. Pirate Set Ups | Practioner:   Sylphid

Sylphid used to do this traders but you can flip this to work against Pirates. Simply ask Pirates for help a tow , protection, teach how to be a pirate, mct party whatever and when they join your fleet and you're at sea immediately attack your alt battle toon or attack a waiting privateer laying in wait then charge at the pirate.  This is a VERY Effective and pirates will hate you for doing it

4. Pirate Tariffs and Economic Sanctions | Practioner:  USMC

Ahhhh economics another dastardly way to get back at Pirates. Inform your company and friends that red and orange names must pay a 50% to 300% tax on anything you sell them.  oh you want tuna steak? 75k each. 100 def boots 200mil. SSIP sorry bud 50mil each. Or ban them from services no R20 Shipbuilding for Pirates, sorry i dont sell to Pirates.  This is very dirty and pisses them off alot.

5. Bounty Hunter Incentive | Practioner:  CPC and various others

You can do this 2 ways.  Get a fleet of 3 or 4 people and Pay a Bounty hunter 5mil each person in fleet to tow them to nanban.  The BH can bring goods there too plus the money the fleet pays NOT a bad way to cash out right! or pay in favors free ship mods unlimited vigor food cannons etc. I used to barter auctions for people.

6. Bounty | Practioner:  Nellemus and various others

Nellemus actually put a 10 billion bounty on himself to catch him and sink him other have put bounties on people 100mil to sink whoever or paying for a deck clean is cool

7. Espionage and Sabotage | Practioner:  AndyDicker

Andydicker put an alt in my company with one of his alts to stalk me and people in my company really weird and creepy guy… none the less this is a very nice strategy by placing alts and spying you can cause all kinds of foolishness give away peoples locations plans secrets set up ambushes  and really dastardly stuff. Remember you can only LOG IN 3 alts at once but you can create unlimited alts use this to your advantage

8. Alt farming for safe waters | Practioner:  Cravens

ahhh I miss Cravens back when I was in an all out war with Pirates the player Cravens joined my company ahhhh it was dope he would actual farm alts and kill npc in EA to flip it Blue heheee  oh how they hated that! Well no use begging pirates to not farm alts they never going to stop and if you can't beat em… JOIN EM Farm your own pirate alt to flip a sea blue and to make it worse it lasts a whole WEEK!

9. Mine Laying Suicide | Practioner:  I forgot

train mine laying and when attacked drop 4 mines and sail into it… instantly killing yourself and preventing pirates from plundering you

10. Psychological warfare| Practioner : CPC

I DID NOT START THIS lol.  So back in the day Pirates would always tease me for not sailing and being a dungeon rat and said I didn't belong in the game and many others too.  Wanna talk trash 2 can play that game lol.  I started a Pirate Welfare Food Stamps program ya know since they were homeless and couldnt get a real job and were hooked on drugs.  So Id  Sail around and give pirates food and water and clothes and 50k since thats how much they make a day plundering lol. Then when I tribbed them I called them homeless Beggars and Thieves BEGGING ME for SCRAPS of my enormous wealth lol.  This REALLY Gets under their skin who knew Pirates hated being called homeless thieves lol.  Ok maybe this is over the top but hey they started first and besides if the shoe was on the other foot they will troll you  after plundering you you better believe it!

There ya go 10 ways to fight back have fun if you have more ways by all means say it lol

Ummm CPC honey I have no alt in Santiago and even Harry/David no longer exists. Also get off your butt and buy a cheap lappy from Craigslist so you can play UWO again.

The following are more like ounces of prevention as far as countermeasures are concerned:

    11.  SSBT - Special Ship Boarding Tickets & Liners

SSBTs are more for paying players unless they managed to buy up some SSBTs off of other paying players, while Liners can be used by pretty much any player beyond the newbie levels.

No one can drag you into battle while you're in a liner, and, if you don't have trade goods  an SSBT allows one to first go to a different liner-able location, then load up on trade goods, then sail back to Europe, sell all trade goods, wait till the one-hour cooldown elapses, then SSBT again to a location to buy chosen trade goods (sometimes having to sail a short distance to a non-liner-able city to buy trade goods), then sail normally back to Europe, etc., et. al.
Keep in mind, however, that you can only use 1 SSBT once an hour.

    12.  Storage rank

Storage rank counters plunder rank, so you might not lose much of anything in trade goods to plunder if your storage rank is high, especially after refinement & further grinding of Storage skill, and a job that has Storage skill as favored helps.

    13.  Secret No-War Epistles/Letters/Notes (blue-flag items)

Another one of those things that are more for paying players, unless one is willing to shell out, say, 10 million ducats to buy a Secret No-War Epistle (1-day flue-blag item) off of other players.  Unlike SSBTs, the blue flag stays in effect for a certain time period, depending on the blue-flaggable item used (Secret No-War Epistle is a 1-day blue-flag item iirc).

    14.  High Disguise layered-on

Pirates can't prevent you from entering Arabic/Turkish cities if they can't plunder disguise equipment that's layered onto you, right?  It's possible to have 80+ disguise worth of equipment layered on to you.

    % corrections:

    11. doesn't work on Nanban trade goods unless you first stock up on other trade goods, then trade that away for EA trade goods in EA

    13.  100 million ducats or something, not 10 million

Don't be mad at us poor pirates mateys, we're just trying to make a dishonest living! Actually, right now I'm just doing battle reports and trying to keep bounty hunters off my butt. Not easy to do right now!

Ok correct me if i'm wrong but a Spanish pirate standing in seville with 100k noto?????  If he farmed spanish npc's for the noto, i doubt they'd ever let him back into seville.  Unless maybe several Billion on discharge petitions.  So it really appears to me this new pirate sat there and logged and alt off and on for like what 300+ times????????????  This is why UWO is failing.  Cause of the type of people we have left that are playing.  Seriously what kinda person logs and alt off/on 300+ times just to win an event?.   No wonder we don't get good event prizes anymore cause they know the person with most/best alts usually wins.  Not the person with most talent or greatest skill.  LOLOLOL  GG XXXXters!

So you're accusing me of farming alts Pie? if so, you've just made a liar out of yourself and I'll be glad to shout that to everyone regardless of anything else that happens. And I have had no problem with you in the past, but if you want to call out my honor make it plain. I sank no one but spanish NPC's and used the appropriate amount of discharge petitions to regain admittance to Seville. Go ahead and call me a liar if you want to, but you're the one that will be wrong. And to be honest, if you think it's possible to do what I did by attacking alts, you're stupid or don't understand how notoriety works very well. And further, anyone who has ever sank one of their own alts is a loser with no honor whatsoever. I await your response - I'll let bygones be bygones if you want to refrain from posting lies about me in the future.

For the record, it takes about 358 NPC's sank to reach 100k notoriety, and around 8-10 discharge petitions to regain admission from the highest level of warring status with any one nation.

Cool I didn’t know you could gain so much Noto from NPCs good work!
  • WesDoobnerWesDoobner Posts: 761Member Intermediate
Apparently nobody knows that, or they probably would have done it themselves, instead of assuming they know what other people are doing and then complaining based on those misperceptions. Those are really the most annoying types of people - who assume they know what's going on, and make remarks based on those assumptions, when in reality they have no clue. And it's really ironic when it's someone who's a supposed vet player that seems to know less about UWO than your average newbie. You would think if they cared enough to take offense at perceived bad gameplay, they would also try to know enough about the basic mechanics of the game for casual conversation. You never know though, different strokes and all that good stuff. thanks for the reply anyhoo, and good luck out on the seas.

You people.  You seriously farmed that many npcs?  WTF is wrong with you.  Why would you even think that admitting that would make u look any better?  Prolly sat in green zone as well waiting on the npcs to spawn or come close.   Sooooo sad.  This was an MMO, meaning u interact'd with other players not npcs.  But then again this isn't UWO anymore.  This is a click bait mobile game.  But go on, be proud u managed to get noto from barca's and other small ships.  LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.  Sooo sad.

People with this frame of mind, has flooded this game, and is why it's not very fun to play anymore.  Enjoy it while it lasts.  Remember according to that discovery event, only 600+ peeps go 10+ discos in that event period, and as u see at least half are alts.  Within 6 months, i bet it's down to less than 300.  But hey this is what ya'll wanted.  GG
  • pieratthepieratthe Posts: 419Member Intermediate
And yes i knew npcs give noto.  I just have more pride in myself and my ability to be a pirate than to actually attack a flagged npc on purpose.  I'm sorry your willing to stoop that low for an event.
  • WesDoobnerWesDoobner Posts: 761Member Intermediate
Apology accepted, and feel free to make fun of my pirate status as long as you acknowledge that I played the event by the rules listed in the official announcement. I would never sink my own alt, that is an extremely dishonorable thing to do in my opinion, and I do care about that. So far in this game, I have only attacked NPC's and defended myself against other people that attack me. And no, I didn't stay in the green zone for this event, I sailed between Seville and Cueta, and also did battle reports between algiers and tunis, and 6 or 7 bounty hunters tried to sink me. Two even succeeded.

between that and alt farming, this is why i don't take noto seriously when i see it on a pirate. Not to say every pirate does it but there's really only been ONE pirate i've ever seen do it legit, that was nellemus back on OGP. He even made dozens of piracy vids on youtube showing all the people he sunk when he was making the climb up to 100k. It was watching his vids and mock battles that got me interested in maritime in the first place. Cheers to any pirate that can do it legit. As a bounty hunter it's much harder to gain honor since most pirates just run away from you and you don't get honor for killing npc pirates.

Ok I mean in regards to alt farming I don't care what you do with your own alt for your own account I mean its your alt do what you want.  As long as it doesn't interfere with the other players.

Alt farming becomes a problem/ illegal when you use it to cheat at events or tournaments thats when Papaya should step in and act. If Wes attacked Npcs hey whatever its not against the rules for the event so cant get mad at the guy for simply playing the game.

I get at ppl like Tomma because they do the alt and npc farming and act like the toughest hardest smartest guy on the server cant be an alt/npc farmer and act like the toughest guy on the server nah you don't get points for that its freaking mindless drones you're defeating. However rules aren't being broken so hey do you as long as you're playing the game.

I will say this as a rule of thumb the baddest most talented pirates are NOT the ones with the highest noto its the ones ACTUAL people regard as godlike Legends ie. EmilyReis, VIKING, GameKlaas, Lodian etc.. The ones people are afraid to challenge and you can ONLY get that legendary status by defeating REAL people no disrespect but its true… sorry.

Master of piracy and master of noto farming  are two VERY Different things…

Is STD still playing ?.Don't forget that strategy does work against non-pirates too. Then Caddy melee'ed him in Clipper after many players learned of his coward tactics.

IIRC, Commander's Sambuk is only ship that can get 5 mining skills ,so does it make lethal to pirates since they usually use rowing ship ?. Err.. I am talking about mine laying suicide.
  • CrzyPsycoChickCrzyPsycoChick Posts: 667Member Intermediate
Oh shoot correction the practioner of farming to get safe waters was Neopotlemos not cravens so sorry my mind is gone sometimes

Not sure if STD still plays I haven't logged in months my pc broke

Far as mine laying I dont think the skills stack so unless you got some wicked r20 mines you probably won't sink a pirate ship and def wont if they have SMR...but detonations on a Clipper or LMS mines will sink you quick foiling the pirates plan.

Hey - just got back from vacation! 4 days at six flags in arlington and my feet are aching. acheing? that doesn't look right. anyhoo, see you on the seas!

btw - I know I'm not really a pirate even though I got a lot of noto for the event, and I have bounty hunters crawling all over my butt. I'm more of a trader first, adventurer/maritimer when I get bored with trade. My current battle level is only 57 I think, so I'm no match for the real pirates, but I'm going to work on that now!

    1. Your dumb a** cant even spell WRITING

    2. Your 26 year old still in High school a** can't even spell GUIDE either so you can't even write a guide nobody would understand your 2nd grade level writing lol.

    3. You're just mad I'm one of only traders that stood up to pirates like when you ran to Lild for protection from me in Seville REMEMBER?

    4. You're the most UNSUCCESSFUL Pirate in UWO history.  After all those years of piracy your net worth was only 10 mil XD lolol how many 50k plunders did it take you to raise that amount lmao?  Also you had one of the crappiest ships AND you ran from everyone and had to farm your own alt to get your Pirate titles.  How Pathethic lmaooooooo.

    5. You're the poster child for everything NOT to be as a  pirate.  Broke, Dumb, Cowardly, illiterate and a joke!
