Attacks by visible NPCs

Is there a formula for calculating the likelihood of attacks by NPCs?

I was with a friend in the Caribbean who could sail straight past all those annoying pirate fleets. I still have to dodge around NPCs in most parts of the globe.

Is it related to your maritime level? Or total levels? Or what?

Any reliable info welcomed.

(I'm talking about visible NPCs not ambush)

I've heard if you have two lvl 85 maritime toons in a fleet there are only like 2 spots in the world where ships will attack you. Never gotten a toon to that level much less two of them so can't say personally.

    heya ^^,

I didn't realized my map was posted there, however, appears it can't be zoomed so it may be hard to read the Legenda. To make it readable:

Green - Low aggression rate, can get immunity from roughly 20 ~ 30 battle level total.
Yellow - Intermediate aggression rate, can get immunity from roughly 40 ~ 60 battle level total.
Orange - High aggression rate, can get immunity from roughly 80 ~ 140 battle level total. Need to be in fleet of 2 at least.
Red - Extreme aggression rate, can get immunity at least 200 battle level in total. This would require at least fleet of 3 players.

Not 100 % certain if battle fame would play a factor, I didn't noticed a major difference. Moreover, not everything I drew out that map is 100 % accurate. It is possible that I have to adjust certain spots, however, I hope this is so far helpful for those.

    Kind Regards,

Just wanted to add that if you have a pet with the Area Caution skill - they have a chance to prevent attacks by visible fleets as well; akin to Military Camouflage, but possibly not as high success rate. And intimacy level likely affects this.

On the other hand - that same pet skill also works like Caution/High lookout, in that it completely stops ambushes at all times. So you get both effects in that one pet skill.

However, it may prevent formidable enemies from showing up. So if you are planning to BR - swap out that pet ;)

It does not prevent formidable opponents from attacking during BRs.

Ah, that's good to know. Thanks Culvern.

I guess I just had supremely awful luck getting them to show up.

You've got to just sail at stick speed until they show up

May the winds blow you well

Culvern matey...We need to have some words. Let me introduce you to my pet bird:

I mean he's only a wee birdie but he must be a master of sabotage because...

32 days later and no 'formidable enemy' anywhere in sight. This was my second attempt at this BR. I guess I liked your post preemptively! lol

Other than maritime - I guess I fail at uploading images also...

I was never able to make formidables appear with caution, high lookout, or pets.

We'll on the upside... It's good to know I didn't waste my time fitting high lookout to my ADV and trade ships.

You can't have caution or lookout skill on for formidable toshow up. High lookout skill on ship also stops them fromshowing up.

Thanks for the validation folks. Yeah it only took 2 days, after putting the bird back in its cage, for the formidable enemy to show up.

Other than that minor inconvenience - it is one of the better pet skills I've found since it frees up a skill on ship and allows for a different active skill at sea, with Caution being redundant.

Although I cannot speak for the High Lookout ship skill, having the regular Lookout skill on doesn't prevent the Formidable Enemies from showing up. When I'm ready for the FE I turn Caution off but keep Lookout on.

The FE can take a while to show up at times.

The Lookout skill give info on ships at longer range than usual - nothing to do with avoiding ambushes.

I never had a problem having my pet seal on board. And he prevents attacks otherwise.

Pet seal? I figure It's the strong smell of fish that keeps people at a distance lol.
