Casting questions

Hello!
I just reached rank 6 in casting and crafted a few broadswords with the sword training - application book. The best i got was a broadsword with 30 atk. I wonder if i will be able to craft stronger broadswords when my casting rank is higher and also how to get better sword recipe books.

The max attack you can get on a sword (or any crafted weapon) is 100.

You get this by starting with a low casting rank sword, that sword is required as a material for a higher rank sword and so forth, eventually you get to a point where you can can't craft a new sword but can only improve that one sword, if done too much it can break aswell and you'll have to start all over again. The high rank books are plundered from the baltic sea btw.

Some of them can be bought in EA. More recipes are available from EA craftsmen.

Casting rank does not seem to have much impact on the improved stats you get. Same when you make Master's versions of armour or cannons. It seems to be a bit of a lottery.

However there are some Oxford skills that help. Increase Production Success Rate increases your chances of a 'great success', so you get more swords with improved stats. There are 4 levels to this skill, and the effects are stackable.

The other one is Item Improvement Techniques. This one increases the max to which the sword could be improved.

You won't get fabulously rich making items like these. But it's fun and they always sell if offered for reasonable prices. Hopefully Steam will bring in many new players so there will be an even bigger market for improved basic items.

So keep working on your rank. At R10 you can do plate armour, and a good one might fetch 10 mil (or more if lucky). Wearing a full set of improved plate (helm, gloves, boots and armour) will give your toon a blue glow.

Rare books are plundered from specific NPC fleets. You need to find out the name of the book you want first. Research the name on Ivyro and you will get the name and location of the fleet.

For rare item plunder you have to defeat enemy fleet members in melee combat. There are lots of guides on line that help with learning how to do it. It's not easy! And you may have to plunder the fleet repeatedly before they drop the book you want.

A good fleet to start on is the Portugese Merchant Fleet in Southern Britain waters. They drop the Ornamenting Fine Armour book - it turns plate armour into gold ornamented armour.

I don't know about the rare sword training books. Would be interested in Boo's advice on that 'cos I might try it myself.

You will probably need a dedicated maritime toon to do rare item plunder. So perhaps it's a longer term objective.

Basically the way it works is

Each book lets you create a more powerful sword based on the previous book's recipe that is capped at certain atk power

    For example

Sword training beginner books lets you create a long sword from dull long sword  12atk

Sword training Application book lets you create a broad sword from long sword  22atk

Sword training Secrets book lets you create a bastard sword from long sword  28atk

Ultimate Sword training book lets you create a Flamberg from the bastard sword 37atk

Ultimate Sword training Application book also lets you gradually improve that Flamberg from 37atk all the way up to 100atk.  It CAN fail and break destroying the sword which is why you must make like 3 flambergs and gradually spread improving across all the swords.  On average it takes about 20-30 flambergs and like 2000 steel and coal and 1200 sand to make about 3x 100atk flamberg

If you want to find where to plunder the book and from who go to http://tinyurl.com/cpcmoneyguides ; and look in the rare plunder guide and it will show where and how to get those books.

    Good luck
