Can I control more than one ship?

I'm pretty new and I see lots of players sailing around with two ships following. In some cases the lead ship has a player's name above it, but the following ships just have a ship type name. From this, I am assuming that the player has somehow, managed to link these two ships to his own to form a fleet, of sorts.

First off, is my assumption correct and if so, what is the method used to set this up?

You can run 2 instances of the game off a computer and have 2 accounts running at the same time. Now papaya allows up to 3 accounts pwr household ip so with a second comp you can boot up a 3rd account. Once logged in game you can just fleet everyone together. Controlling everyone from different screens can be tricky at times but it depends on what you are doing. If it's just trade, it's easy as you just put everyone on follow. Sea battles are alot trickier since you need to focus a lot more on your main. So when you see groups like that its usually just one player and their alts.

Also when your aide reaches 50 trust, they can sail their own ship(still need to meet the ship's lvl requirements). So that is often who is following the player.

By your description though, you might have found some named npc fleets, where the admiral is named but their followers just display the ship type.

That's not quite the same thing. He asked about controling other ships. Aide ships are "indirectly" controlled by you since they are AI run.

You can run 3 clients on 1 PC by using the Windows

@Spookles eek, i wouldn't want to do that. It bad enough running 2 on my laptop since the Windows overlap on the small screen :/

Also the more instances you run, the harder your vid card has to work. Some vid cards won't support that many instances running at the same timr.

Thanks for the info guys. I have tried creating a second account but I do not seem to be able to; I get the message 'Creation not allowed'. It is always possible that I created an account some years ago that I have forgotten about. Not to worry though I'm having loads of fun anyway. I just got r21 Merchant and can now use my Graduation Merchant ship.

I'll have to get by with my Aide when trust gets to 50.

I had the bright idea that I would try the Steam version but no joy with that either. The message says that an error occurred connection to the database because authentication failed.

So it loos like I can't get two ships running. Never mind.

@Dwalefoot when you make a second account are you using the same or different emails? You can only have one account per email (as far as i know) so try a differnt email for the second account. A other reason might be the account name is already taken by someone else, so play around with a couple differnt variations.

You can have more accounts on 1 mail, simply do

    xxx+1@xxx.xxx
or +2, +3... Most mail servers (gmail/outlook/yahoo) support this. This way you can have all your mails go to 1 inbox without having to create multiple mails which is a pain in the butt.

    Thanks for the advice, but...

The email I used was completely different to the one my original account. The name I used is one I made up like this handle and it is unlikely anyone else thought of it. Still it is worth trying another.
