Tips for safe voyaging and avoiding Pirates and PvP

When you have lvls 30 in 1 class or
total lvls 50 you can be attacked by players. You cant be attecked in
Safe waters if your name is white

After you have been attacked by a player you can not be attacked by that player again for 30 minutes.

General safety tips:

  • keep your money in the bank and only take with you enough ducats to pay your aides and crew
  • keep valuable and plunderable items in the bank

use link to Papaya (non-)plunderable items list for that

    https://uwo.papayaplay.com/uwo.do?tp=news.view&postid=1505
  • Captain’s bag is safe from plunder
  • Camouflage Hold gives 40% chance to be safe from plunder

Some tips for safety from player pirate attacks:

  • always carry a pack of Lifesavers with you (btw also recommended are
Firebags, Timber for repairs or Lumber to convert to Timber, Spare
    Sails
  • use Fine Tributes* when attacked by players in hostile waters
  • use Secret-No-War-Pacts* (also called Blue Flags) when you have to go into Lawless waters
  • set your status to private when you sail in hostile lawless

    2 options:
  • Private allow friends – friends and company mates can see you in search and in the respective list and can communicate via chat
  • Private block all is the safest – nobody can see
you on search and you also dont show on company member or friend list
while in that status – but no chat communication at all while in that
    status
  • you can check Maritime Guild Mediators for recent player pirate or Bounty Hunting activities
  • Be extra careful in areas where player pirates are known to be waiting/hunting for prey

    – Canary Islans sea zone (choke point for returns from many areas and you are slowed by headwinds)

    – Boston (especially during railway event)

    – Calicut

    – Jakarta (choke point for return route from East Asia)

    – Sakai, Edo and Tamsui (are the most dangerous places inside East Asia)

    – Red Sea (the whole sea zone is a choke point)

    – Capte Town

Fine Tributes

  • work only if they match the size class of your ship.
  • They work in hostile but not in lawless waters.
  • If Admiral of fleet uses a Fine Tribute the battle ends
  • When you use a Fine Tribute you lose half your cash on hand but no more. No plundering possible
  • can be bought from Moguls in London and Lisbon (but they almost never have any for large/heavy ship class on offer)
  • can be crafted at Item or Craft (Amsterdam/Venice) shop in Capital Cities. 3 different recipes – each in 2 Capitals

see Ivyro – Recipes – Storage for details

Secret-No-War-Pacts*

  • work everywhere and you can not be attacked by anybody and they also prevent you from attaking anybody
  • every player in fleet needs to have 1 active to be safe from attacks
  • work only for the duration stated
  • you can buy them in UWC shop and you also get some in Challenge Mission rewards (menu record)

Tips for safety from NPC Pirates:

  • use Caution skill – this reduces chance of attack but does not eliminate it. works better the higher the rank
  • carry Tributes for Brigands ( can be bought for 31k from Moguls in
Lisbon or London or crafted at Company Admin Offices using produce
    button)
  • Ceasefires are cheaper that tributes for brigands but only work in some sea zones. see ivyro for details

Note that if a cease fire order fails you can try again as long as you dont get into mellee - it might work in subsequent atempts.

Note:the lvl 30 /50 total lvls is and not or.

Examples: 29/29/29 ,5/39/5 are safe, because they only meet 1 of the 2  requirements

whereas 29/30/29 ,6/39/5 are not safe because they meet both requirements

Also even if you meet all the requirements to be plundered if the pirates has 80 or more total levels above you they cannot attack. Kind of unfair to pirates but hey whatevs

thank you crazyhunter for the correction - it should have been AND as you say.

Also a correction regarding Secret-No-War-Pacts (blue flag):
Each fleet member needs to have 1 active to be safe from attacks by player pirates.
It is enough if the fleet admiral has an active Secret-No-War-Pact to protect all fleet members from attacks by NPCs.
Thank you JohnnyRotten for the input.

Plus do not forget the Storage skill. With max storage you don't need to worry about piracy. They will never plunder more than a few fish.

All these suggestions are just crazy!
It is best and safest to just sail close to shore in a slow high cargo ship. This is best done AFK as well. Carry tons of cash and high value items will also scare off most pirates....

Grinding storage to 10 helps as well

I do wonder how r10 storage will stack up against r25 plunder?
But seeing as high as the game favors traders I would guess r10 storage is sufficient.

Speaking of R25 skills, someone once said to me in game that storage can go past R20. But I having refined it, disconfirm this. Does anyone have a reliable list of skills that max at R25?

It's mostly the battle skills that can get to r25

Some skills can be taken beyond 20 with boston academy job skills.

If I have a high value cargo, I usually sail with 2 ships one will have R19 the other R20. I have never lost more than a few fish to plunder - although storage skill does not protect your cash. At around R15-16 I have lost occasional books (mid value ones from port investment).

Of course I have no idea what rank plunder my assailants have.

My attitude to piracy now is to ignore it. Honestly I get more hassle from NPCs. There's no excuse if you're a trader not to max out your storage. It is a hell of a lot easier to grind than plunder!

If you max storage, don't carry valuable gear and keep only 200k cash, then you don't even need to carry tribs. When you get sunk by a pirate just self-rescue and carry on. It's minimal inconvenience.
