This would also get rid of God Gear/cannons/etc, therefore restoring an equal playing field. As long as no new items of the sort are returned, the "every 2 years" argument would be flushed.
Every change to come will have impact on other aspects of the game.
Every change made in the past is an excellent proof of that.
I understand vets who risk loosing years of progress not yet to mention the real cash they have invested in the game. Even while the terms of service say so, a deletion of their belongings is somehow theft while UWO will simply continue existing. If it was for a definitive stop of the game then it is another situation that would rectify it. But taking away all vets have built so far including their personal belongings in order to please the few to come and the few who can live with the loss of their investments because they have time and money to do it all over again... I don't know it doesn't feel right. Me for example, I have to work hard every day to earn my loan and when there were a few coins left by the end of the month, I carefully bought a few astros in the past, loosing them is painful to me.
- Inflation broke down the game and keeps newbies from continuing.
- The balance between multiple account usage and the purpose to do so should be fixed and limited.

"The game is old and is ruled by the top 1%". Who are these top 1% and what exactly do they rule?...Total codswallop, there are hundreds of ways to play and enjoy the game, as i indeed have done for years. Itry most things in UWO, i have my favourite interests just like anyone else, but have never met this so called top 1% or indeed any other player who rules my game or my characters.
"New players feel overwhelmed". Oh really? I tend to think that the original new players who were there at the beginning of the game where in a far more overwhelming situation than todays new players, who have many more benefits that come in many different guises, to help ease their characters into the ways of UWO.
mankind never learns...
Doubt anyone who invested around 8 years in game will continue it.
(*Edit* No need to bother with my other posts, I seem to have been triggered and gone off again here. This just seems so effing stupid I can't help it. After this I swear to God I'm not reading any more of these mind numbing "wipe the server it will be awesome" threads... anyway...)
I just want to point out to these nostalgic vets imagining a wipe will reset the server to "day 1"... One of the few and only things Vertigo has actually stated is they will be releasing the next expansion very soon after relaunch. So your glory days of short distance trade, feather runs, and worrying about developing ports that are now all but irrelevant is a delusion. Sure, the adventurers and people who actually enjoy crafting will work on city development. But the cogs in the ducat consuming, astro churning, grinding machine will pay it no mind (more on that in a sec). If there is going to be a wipe it will coincide with the current expansion as we knew it and quickly be followed by the next one.
And if I can unlock all ports and canals without even doing any trading, it's not likely that fooling around in India or the Carib will concern the power levellers rushing to get Nanban unlocked and get the ducats flowing.
If there is a wipe but no rollback to remove expansion content then we will have all the advantages of charting, battle reports, raising hints II, and all the other current tricks of the trade. And while a lot of vets (including myself) will quit, some will undoubtedly return to quickly capitalize on the situation. Knowing all the ins and outs from creating alts recently, they will blow through early game like it's a joke. Especially those that can afford to play bottles till they get a good ship and run skill notes and every 50% boost under the sun.
Returning vets will be nanbanning their faces off in no time and blowing the ducats on astro gear and ships. People who can afford to sell astro items and don't have to worry about making money in game along with the career resellers will be raking in those ducats and they will be trying to hike up prices as much as possible to their own benefit. And keep in mind, if they are even a little bit patient, with all the advantages we have now and returning players knowing exactly what to do and when to do it EA goods will be back in the bazaars in no time.
People who only want to maritime and can afford to blow a lot on astros will be out grinding in NC ships in no time flat, buying whatever they need with ducats gotten from selling astro items to the people furiously nanbanning to come up the hard way . And again, they will want as much as they can get for the astro items and NC ships.
The big time astro buyers, the resellers, and even the experienced Nanbanners will quickly leave any casual players or new players trying to get their bearing in the dust. So fast their heads will spin. Sure a few of you that return will be nice and help out the newbies.
But it will matter little once the machine gets going again.
Playing field quickly returning to uneven. Economy quickly inflating.
Nothing solved. What-so-ever.
Oh wait, and what was that thing about a mass exodus of veteran players? They supported the game through the years or whatever. You know... the ones that get boned or something. Or maybe it was the ones that don't matter now cause the game doesn't need them or would be better without them or something... and more new players will come anyway.
That's right... and the new players are gonna love trying to compete with the big astro spenders and resellers and experienced nanbanners that return to capitalize on the situation. Cause this is post-wipe and it's all better now. That's what it was.
Boy, if it doesn't work out though... it will kinda be a shame all those stupid vets left that the game didn't need. But of course it will work out. It's a fool-proof plan if I've ever heard one.
You know, maybe, just maybe, if people came up with intelligent solutions to the problems in the game that we could agree on. Instead of "DERRRR... Let's delete everything! HERRR DERRRR !!!" Maybe Vertigo would listen and this game would have a chance at new life and a healthy population.
I hope to God someone at Vertigo has some good ideas because otherwise I think we are in big trouble.
