If you intend to do more piracy or bounty hunting activity then you will counter this more often. Bear in mind that force deck battle does not work to white players in hostile waters without consent and neither does in scheduled events (Epic Sea Feud, Epic Pirate Feud, Battle Campaign etc.)
Before you can take the step to enter deck battle, make sure you have a ship with great amount of crew (> 250) and having assault deck battle as ship skill increases the success rate to force deck with the admiral of your enemy (also penetrates their skill "Deck Barrier" which usually prevents force deck). For crew, the higher your crew is in ratio over your opponent, the greater the chance becomes for engaging them. Make sure you have any measures to survive in sea battle so that this phase goes smoothly.
In PvP has every player his/her own taste with fighting in land battle including deck, which makes it difficult to explain. However here are the general basis you need in order to compete decent in deck battles:
1) Having at least 600+ stamina or higher by having a greater total level. It would be very disadvantageous if you face opponent who not only got more experience and stamina, however, also deals more damage which can result to quick death.
2) Your tech spawn rate should be minimum, so that is 5 seconds which requires acquiring at least 60 active battle techs whereas trap/item techs counts half of its value. Having this gives you a great advantage in land battle.
3) Always ensure that you've nearly full vigor before engaging deck battle. The vigor ratio accounts half of your starting gauge (purple bar, right-below corner) so you can start up to 100 gauge which can give you a head start vs your opponent.
4) Suggested land battle items sets: Soma/Antidote, Secret Medication, Ascelpius Elixir and Hawk/Eagle Wings (for evasion).
5) If you want to survive against high damage dealers, then try to get evasion tech from original tech by having "swift" as item tech base and use additives to prolong its duration. A proficient player is able to keep his/her evasion on making them invincible from normal attacks (not from techs though).
6) In case you face an opponent that spams evasion... then make use of trap techs if your trap rank along your adventure level is high enough, without... you will have failures which may result to death especially when you don't have evasion on. The same condition helps you also to be more immune against opponent's trap techs.
7) Taking distance from opponent by running around to buy time till you heal, your desired tech comes out or that you want to do hit-and-run tactic. You may get scolded by this since some pvpers consider it as cowardice, though... in my opinion if they want to catch the mouse... you've TRAPS for that! :-)
These are the hints that I can share so far and bear in mind this is just a general strategy I have provided. You may need your own specific strategy for certain opponents you face.
Hope this helps ^^
