Calculating Damage

Can someone explain (or point to a post that explains) how to calculate weapon damage? I still don't completely understand the relationship between Melee Attack Damage shown on the weapon and your character's attack (Atk) and how gems affect those along with critical damage.

Thanks.

Base attack + STR/SPR/DEX (Depending on class, your damage stat) + Base Weapon damage = Total Base attack

Total base attack x % attack multipliers = Bonus total attack

Total base attack + Bonus total attack + Bonus damage from ranks of items and etc = Final attack

This is the formula that has been stated for many years, but it's a bit inaccurate now for some reason. It's still pretty close to how it works though and will give you a good idea of how to do max damage or why something adds less damage then you expected. Some of the numbers you'll see get added before multipliers and some after for example, %s from brands dont show in character sheet, %s from some passive skills do..

Elemental damage is done at the end, from gems and etc - and that's partly why using rhombus or pyramids (both raw physical/magic) in your weapons is actually stronger than people realise, and was at some points in dekaron history the best choice for pure damage builds. (also due to how resistances work against elemental damage.). Elemental gems are the best these days though as the non elemental gems haven't kept up in %s.

Critical damage is what it sounds like, the % modifier that gets applied to your actual hit damage - not character sheet damage.

Thanks. This is helpful. It seems it is virtually impossible to precisely calculate the attack even if you know the resistances of the victim due to some hidden variables.

Can you clarify the last sentence about critical damage. I think you are saying that during an attack, the program calculates the Final Attack -- which will very based on the min and max values of the character atk and weapon atk -- and then calculates the crit add-on. Is that right?

Yeah it's extremely hard to do 100% accurate atm because we are basically searching around a room with no light on. That formula is close though (works better at higher levels, inaccurate for lowbies I found in the past), it just lacks some information on where we put a few numbers that have been implemented into the game recently like helpyron stats etc and so when you use it it's slightly off the numbers in game - though again it is very close so it's still usable, just have to remember it's not perfect.

And yes basically that's how it works, but it's not specifically about the min max values - it's about all the things combined. The game works through that formula above and then afterwards the crits get calculated, it's more of a multiplier to the original number though than addon.

    Cool. Thanks a lot!

No problem! I have requested an up to date and accurate formula from the gms/devs so maybe they will grace us with their knowledge at some point if we're lucky. :P
